A Case For Crewneck Sweaters
Now, I know some of you have the opinion that a crewneck sweater is not for you. Or perhaps that someone you are shopping for; a brother, sister, father, or your mom, shares in that opinion. However, maybe it’s just that you, or they, just haven’t found the right one. Now, I could go on about how So You’s sweaters are double-needle stitch and have 1x1 ribbing with spandex at the neck, waist and wrists so that your comfy fitted sweater remains just that, comfy and fitted. But instead, let me appeal to your logic, and maybe a little pull at your heart strings.
Crewneck sweaters are a fashion staple, not a fashion faux pas. As you might have read in some of my previous blogs (such as Fall Fashion), there is a versatility to a crewneck sweater that is essential to a North American wardrobe. Let’s face it, we don’t always have weather that is conducive to light and flowy linen, silks, tanks and razor back tops, or even long-leaved T’s are a challenge to get away with at some points of the year. So practically speaking, we all need a warm sweater.
But why a crewneck? Get a fitted sweater and throw on a button shirt underneath to dress it up. Or maybe get an oversized sweater, roll the cuffs about two inches and pair it with fitted dark wash jeans and nice heals. Either way, you can dress it up a bit if you’re looking to stay fresh and head out for that date, dinner get-together, or even a slightly more casual work environment. Dressing it down is easy, throwing on an oversized sweater with some leggings (make sure your leggings aren’t see-through… now that’s a common faux pas), or some joggers is an easy way to look fashionable while staying comfortable. But then you also have the functionality of removing the sweater if you over heat, or if your date gets a little cold.
Guys, here is a definite win for you. Imagine this; your date gets cold and you take off the sweater to reveal your nice buttoned top (tons out there that don’t wrinkle). You still look good and you get to wrap her in your warm, oversized (for her), and lightly, yet manly scented sweater. Scented with a good cologne and not your BO... you did remember to put on deodorant right… or maybe you just killed the moment, but that’s on you, you should have been prepared.
Lastly, only because this is getting long, we make sweaters that have meaningful phrases on them and that speak to self-expression. Show up wearing a So Driven sweater to let everyone know you don’t time for their bulls*#t because you’re going places. Or maybe you have the So West End because you love where you live and the cultural diversity it represents. Either way, in a day and age when connecting and being heard is increasingly more difficult, allow your new sweater to effect change in the world around you. It also makes a great gift idea, adding a person touch to a staple garment for anyone’s wardrobe.
